This week I got to play with my drone a bit more than usual. Here’s a few images that I took over the town of Hastings, southeast of Grand Rapids, a little bit after sunrise.
First a context image. Looking west, up State Street E. You’re seeing the warm light from the early morning sun in the western horizon. The second is similar, but from a different angle at a lower altitude.
Next are, I think, the prettiest two images from this flight. The steeple is from the Barry County Courthouse. As a technical matter, I’m very impressed how well my drone’s camera handled a shot looking directly into the sun. There’s some flaring obviously, on the chimney beside the steeple, but the lens suppresses it pretty well. With the second one, I found an angle to block off some of the sun, eliminate unwanted flaring, and exaggerate a sunburst look.
Finally, two images looking straight down in abstract looking, two-dimensional views. One is the courthouse; I liked the mix of structure, lines, and organic shapes. The other is an intersection–State and Jefferson–featuring a variety of lines and shapes.
Enjoy. And stay cool!
