Grand River Views

My last photo walk of 2023 was on a gloomy late December day, more a matter of felt duty, to get out one more time before year’s end than desire or to pursue a good idea. But the walk reminded me that in the end, photography is not about equipment or scenery or “good” light. It’s about an eye to see.

Turns out, I saw some interesting things. Interesting to me at least. The scene below reflected in the waters of Grand River reminded me of painting, so I shot these images with a painterly look in mind.

The two images of the bridge in Ada village have movement and energy to them, both from the angles of view and the distortions of the water.

Finally, two with the water and the banks. I did both of these wondering if the foam in the water might look like starlight in the sky. The second works better than the first, I think.

And, finally, something completely different. A mailbox. This one is about the frost from a cold post-Christmas morning.

Here’s to hoping that 2024 is a good year. My perusal of the news suggests otherwise, But one can hope.
