Lowell Pride

On Saturday I headed east towards Lowell, MI, to find a place to photograph. I had in mind anywhere from Lowell to Saranac to Ionia. When I got to Lowell, I found the town crowded with people. It was the Lowell Pride Festival. So, I stopped and photographed.

A band was playing. Just two people but kicking out great sound. Two images from behind the stage, and two from the side.

The performers were great, but many of the people there in the audience were decked out in color and finery too.

As with everything today in the U.S., there was politics–support of Pride, of course, but also criticism of it.

And concern about potential disruption.

My favorite image of the day is a black and white version of the cover image of this post, from the entrance to the festival. Ironically, perhaps, the bright colors seemed distracting, drawing the eyes all over the image. This black and white version draws your eyes to the person and umbrella.

And finally, from a sidewalk display at a store a few yards outside the entrance to the festival, this “mannequin” looking on at the people going in and out of the festival. Again, color was distracting. Black and white gives it a timeless look.

Enjoy!
