Last week my wife and I drove and photographed (me) and biked (her) the Great Divide route from Rawlins, Wyoming, to Salida, Colorado. Here are a few of my favorite landscaped from the route. Some moody, even dark. Others bright and pretty.
East of Rawlins, on a on-and-off rainy morning.
West of Encampment, WY, on a road to the Sandstone Cabin we stayed at overnight.
Looking east, on the road to Encampment.
North of Steamboat Springs, with the lake in the background.
And two, on a road over the pass to Kremmling.
It’s easy to see why painters and photographers have been drawn to the oversized Western American landscape.

Nice views. The West really is a vast place. Can’t imagine the thousands undertaking that journey on foot or in wagon to begin a new life.
A agree, Jerry. As I was driving south from Rawlins, not long after I stopped to take the first picture in this post, I saw a marker for the Overland Trail. You could still see the ruts in the land from the wheels.
